About McKenna L.
As a therapist I prioritize truly getting to know you as an individual while also understanding how the various systems in your life shape your experiences. I believe my role is to equip you with practical skills to navigate your everyday challenges, all while offering a supportive, person-centered approach. Together, we’ll explore the meaning you find in your life and empower you to adapt to challenges and transitions you may encounter. Taking those first steps toward therapy can be daunting! I am here to guide you through purposeful conversation or activities tailored to your needs. My goal is to build trust and sustain long-term change at your own pace, ensuring that the positive changes we work on together will continue even after our time together.
I specialize in working with children and adolescents that may be struggling with mood disorders or difficult transitions. I believe in involving the child’s family, to ensure they feel confident to adequately support one another. My approach extends to clients of all ages experiencing broader life changes, helping them navigate their journey to arrive at cohesion and resilience. Many of my clients across various age groups and backgrounds additionally struggle with aspects of identity and require a multicultural perspective to bridge gaps that have prevented them from reaching their ideal self. With my older clients, I hope to help them feel understood within their lives and to strengthen their skills in areas of communication, parenting, or identity as they work through their personal life events. With my younger clients, I hope to emphasize their voice and assist them in processing their experiences and the impact they may have in their lives.
My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience with a focus in medicine, classics, and philosophy from Baylor University alongside a Masters of Arts in Forensic Psychology from The Chicago School. When I am not with my clients, I can often be found reading or watching movies. I love long walks with a good cup of coffee and have been spending my free time learning how to cook. I integrate my creative abilities in terms of painting within the therapy space while utilizing art as a form of self-care outside of my professional life.
“My goal is to enact purposeful conversation that builds trust and allows every individual to share their story and feel understood.”
